SB107 increases fees and reporting requirements for businesses regulated by the Alabama Board of Funeral Services. It authorizes the board to charge funeral establishments an administrative fee for each funeral arranged; raises several application, renewal, branch-registration, transfer, and preneed-sales-agent fees; and requires holders of preneed funeral certificates to file annual activity statements and, if required by the board, additional reports during the year.

The Alabama State Senate passed SB107 on March 12, 2026 by a vote of 22 to 5. We have assigned pluses to the nays because this bill increases government-imposed fees and regulatory burdens on private businesses, raising the cost of operating funeral homes and providing funeral services. These additional fees and reporting requirements expand government bureaucracy, interfere with the free market, and impose unnecessary costs that could ultimately be passed on to grieving families. Rather than increasing fees and regulations, Alabama should reduce government interference and allow businesses to operate freely in a competitive marketplace.
