SB1808 amends an existing law that prevents a homeowners' association (HOA) from prohibiting the outdoor display of the "American flag or a uniformed services flag" to include the Israeli flag.
The House passed SB1808 on June 11, 2026, by a vote of 33 to 22. We have assigned pluses to the nays because this bill compels property owners in planned communities or condominiums to accept the public display of a foreign flag. Flags are long-standing symbols of "true faith and allegiance," and no person should be permitted to display the Israeli flag or "any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States" (U.S. Flag Code, Section 7(c)). The American flag is the property of "We the People," who not only have a right to concentrate our national affections, but, in the words of George Washington, "must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism." America's sovereignty as "one Nation" remains under threat from foreign influence, whose treachery seeks to usurp our "Flag" and subvert the "Republic for which it stands." Like the Declaration of Independence, the American flag predates the U.S. Constitution. Representing the heart and soul of our country, "Old Glory" needs to be treated with dignity and respect, not public injury. Pursuant to federal law, as well as the First and 10th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, Arizona can and must put an end the desecration of America's most revered symbol.
