SB5917 amends state law to authorize the Washington Department of Corrections to "acquire, receive, possess, sell, resell, deliver, dispense, distribute, and engage in any activity constituting the practice of pharmacy or wholesale distribution with respect to abortion medications." Additionally, the department is authorized to deliver and distribute these medications to any person, regardless of whether the person is in the custody or under the supervision of the department.
The Washington State Senate passed SB5917 on February 10, 2026 by a vote of 32 to 17. We have assigned pluses to the nays because the care of human life—not its destruction—is the greatest responsibility of government, Washington ought to forbid abortion and other grotesque methods of population control entirely, upholding the sanctity of life for every person. The right to life is the most fundamental, God-given, and unalienable right asserted in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed by the Fifth and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
