HB217 creates a Class 1 misdemeanor to import, sell, manufacture, purchase, or transfer an "assault firearm"; and to import, sell, barter, transfer, or purchase a "large capacity ammunition feeding device" that holds, or can be readily converted to hold, more than 15 rounds.

The Virginia House of Delegates passed HB217 on March 11, 2026 by a vote of 60 to 35. We have assigned pluses to the nays because the fundamental right of the American people to keep and bear arms is protected by the U.S. Constitution, particularly in the Second, Ninth, and 10th Amendments, and should not be infringed. HB217 is a gross infringement on that right.
