SB771 Free-speech Violation (Passed 30 to 8 on 9/11/2025). Makes large social-media platforms legally liable if their algorithms or actions help facilitate violence, intimidation, or discrimination that violates California civil-rights laws.

AB268 New State Holiday: Diwali (Passed 36 to 0 on 9/10/2025). Designates Diwali, the Hindu “festival of lights," as an official state holiday in California.

SB518 Reparations for Descendants of Slaves (Passed 30 to 10 on 9/10/2025). Establishes the Bureau for Descendants of American Slavery within California’s Civil Rights Department to administer future reparations-related programs.

AB260 Abortion Protection (Passed 30 to 8 on 9/9/2025). Expands protections for access to medication abortion in California, and shields providers, pharmacists, and facilities from out-of-state interference.

SJR1 Con-Con Rescission (Passed 28 to 0 on 6/16/2025). Rescinds all previous applications made by the California Legislature requesting that Congress call an Article V convention for proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

SB954 Sexual Education (Passed 63 to 7 on 8/31/2024). Mandates free condom access for grades 9–12 starting in 2025–26, promotes partnerships with health organizations, allocates $5 million for community distribution, and prohibits age-based restrictions on nonprescription contraception.

AB1992 Carbon Sequestration (Passed 58 to 9 on 8/30/2024). Allows for the development of "blue carbon" and "teal carbon" demonstration projects to study and quantify the carbon-sequestration potential of coastal and wetland ecosystems.

SB1174 Voter ID Ban (Passed 57 to 16 on 8/27/2024). Prohibits local governments from requiring voters to present identification to vote or submit a ballot at any polling place, vote center, or other ballot-submission location.

SB53 Firearm Storage (Passed 51 to 18 on 8/26/2024). Imposes stricter firearm storage laws, forcing gun owners to lock up their firearms at home unless being carried or controlled by an authorized user.

AB2442 Gender-mutilation Care Licenses (Passed 62 to 10 on 5/13/2024). Requires California medical licensing boards to expedite licensure for applicants intending to provide so-called gender-affirming healthcare or mental healthcare, similar to the existing process for abortion providers.

SJR7 Article V Convention: Gun Control (passed 53 to 17 on 9/14/2023). Applies to Congress to call an Article V convention for the purpose of proposing a constitutional amendment on “firearms regulations and prohibitions.”

AB1406 Firearm Purchase Waiting Periods (passed 67 to 9 on 9/11/2023). Allows the California Department of Justice to delay a firearms background check up to 30 days if “additional research” is required or by “emergency” order of the Attorney General.

AB957 "Gender Identity" Affirmation for Child Custody (passed 61 to 16 on 9/8/2023). Would include a parent’s affirmation of the child’s “gender identity or gender expression” as part of the “health, safety, and welfare” factors used to determine the “best interests of the child” for the purposes of deciding custody.

SB385 Aspiration Abortions by Physician Assistants (passed 58 to 15 on 8/24/2023). Expands aspiration abortion training for physician assistants and permits them to perform aspiration abortions without the presence of a supervising physician and surgeon.

AB408 “Climate-Resilient” Bond Act of 2024 (passed 67 to 9 on 5/31/2023). Would authorize $3.4 billion in general bond obligations to finance programs related to “climate change,” “food insecurity,” and an “equitable economy.”

AB1034 Ban on Biometric Police Bodycam Surveillance (passed 41 to 17 on 5/15/2023). Would prohibit a law enforcement officer or agency from using any biometric surveillance system in connection with a law enforcement agency’s body-worn camera or data collected from an officer camera.

SB918 Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) Restrictions (failed 53 to 23 on 9/1/2022). Would create several major provisions related to concealed carry weapons (CCW) licenses, such as raising the minimum age requirement to 21.

SB70 State-Mandated Kindergarten (passed 59 to 12 on 8/18/2022). Requires a child to complete one year of kindergarten before that child may be admitted to the first grade at a public elementary school.

SCA10 'Right to Abortion' in California Constitution (passed 58 to 17 on 6/27/2022). Would amend the California Constitution to include an individual's "fundamental right to choose to have an abortion."

AB421 Sexual Identity Changes for Minor Children (passed 57 to 1 on 6/20/2022). Requires California courts to order parents who do not sign a change of gender petition that has been filed on behalf of their minor child to show cause why the petition should not be granted by filing a written objection.

SB154 Budget (passed 56 to 18 on 6/13/2022). Contains the 2022 Budget Act, which, along with other related legislation, implements California's state budget of approximately $307.9 billion for FY 2022-23.

AB412 California Commission on Human Rights (passed 68 to 0 on 9/2/2021). Would establish the California Commission on Human Rights to evaluate the state's protection of human rights as “defined, enumerated, or set forth by, but not limited to” the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
